Integrated Pipeline Design Project (IPL)

Client: Dallas Water Utilities
Location: Dallas, TX

Rafael Ortega served as the Lead QA/QC Manager responsible for the development and implementation of the QC plan and assuring adherence to design requirements and industry standards for large-diameter water main projects. Section 15-1 included over 15 miles of 108-inch pipeline as a part of an integrated water delivery transmission system. The scope also included design for steel or concrete pipe (competitively bid) and flowable fill and traditional granular bedding. Notable design challenges included short tunnel sections at large-diameter high-pressure petroleum pipeline crossings, TxDOT crossings, and a Union Pacific Railroad crossing.
