Client: Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA)
Location: La Marque, TX
Aurora designed the relocation of approximately 4,000 LF of 42” water transmission main along SH 3 at the intersection of State Highway 146. The relocation of GCWA’s existing 42” bar wrap transmission line was a result of conflicts with TxDOT’s proposed highway expansion project, which posed a risk to the existing water line and hindered GCWA’s ability to maintain and service the pipe.
Major challenges included (1) coordination of the construction schedule with TxDOT highway expansion construction and easement acquisition schedule, (2) performing wet connections to the existing 42” water line within a limited timeframe to minimize water loss to GCWA’s customers, (3) mitigating impacts to existing wetlands inside project limits, (4) crossing multiple pipeline crossings. Aurora successfully identified alignment alternatives that minimized impacts to TxDOT construction and reduced the number of easements required to replace the water line.
